Mikkeller Brewing

Mikkeller is a world-renowned, Copenhagen-based craft brewery founded by Mikkel Borg Bjergsø. Mikkeller has a variety of restaurants and breweries around the world — including two locations in San Diego, one being in Little Italy and the other in San Diego’s popular beer neighborhood, Miramar. Both locations are beautifully designed and offer a cozy, Danish feel and innovative beers. 

Known for their playful branding courtesy of Keith Shore, Mikkeller focuses on exploring and expanding “existing beer genres by using the best raw materials available.” The beers at Mikkeller utilize creative flavors and showcase all possible styles, using lots of experimentation. I love the colorful illustrations used on Mikkeller’s packaging — and the recognizable characters that Shore created and appear throughout the designs. The San Diego locations incorporate the same branding and have a distinct, Danish aesthetic that is warm and counter to the majority of breweries in San Diego. The Little Italy location is a comfortable respite from the busy surrounding neighborhood and the perfect place to grab a beer and catch up with friends — but it is small with minimal seating. The Miramar location is much larger and was recently remodeled, evoking a brighter and more modern aesthetic.
