The Farmer and The Cook

‘The Farmer and the Cook’ is a health food restaurant and farm founded by Steve Sprinkel and Olivia Chase — the farmer and the cook, respectively. Located in the heart of Ojai, and a staple for locals, the menu features a variety of healthful Mexican favorites, packable sandwiches for picnics, pizza, juices and smoothies. A casual place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the space is simple with a walk-up counter and options for indoor and outdoor seating. 

The concept for ‘The Farmer and the Cook’ was born from Steve Spinkel’s and Olivia Chase’s desire to have a restaurant on a farm — and serve organic produce directly to their customers. Steve Sprinkel has been an adherent to the organic farming movement “since the 1960s” and now farms on “12 acres (CCOF certified) in Ojai” devoting his time and energy to training other farmers and consumers on the importance of organic farming.

The day we spent in Ojai, we stopped by ‘The Farmer and the Cook’ for an early lunch. Our smoothie was incredible — vibrant, green and still sweet with fresh fruit. I also ordered the ‘Farmer’s Plate,’ which was packed with fresh beans, rice, homemade tortillas, “mexi-kraut” and fresh salsa. Be sure to stop by ‘The Farmer and the Cook’ in Ojai, CA.
